Reflex - New Face | Same Reliability! Insider Technologies is pleased to share the redesigned Graphical User Interface for Reflex monitoring in advance of Insider Technologies attendance at TBC2019. The Reflex Graphical Console is known as Status Monitor. This view represents the overall status of a single NonStop node. Status Monitor helps an installation to manage their NonStop nodes and active services by providing a graphical view of nominated exception conditions. Installations that need to manage their network other than “by exception” can witness a richer EMS event stream by using the Status Monitor top-level views in conjunction with the text based Console facility. The Status Monitor display is made up of columns known as classes, and within classes, icons that can represent a group of objects or a single object. Classes can be built to represent subsystems, services or local User applications.
The structure of this display is completely at the discretion of the User. The most common approach is to create either status or service views. Status views are Operations driven where groups of “like” things, such as disc drives or spoolers, are assembled into the same class. A service class however, could contain a set of process icons, a set of file icons, a spooler device and a specific communications line, all of which support a particular application. Either approach is acceptable and it is possible to implement both and have the same icon in more than one class. Icons can represent physical objects such as a communications line or a state such as “TMF Disabled”. Icons in the Status Monitor display can flash either blue (vulnerable) or red (down). Vulnerable is meant to illustrate that a service is continuing but that it is threatened. Losing a disk path is an example of Vulnerability. Network Monitoring Reflex needs to be installed on each of the NonStop nodes that will be monitored. Each Reflex system will connect to its own local Primary EMS collector ($0) and selected alternate collectors, and listen and process local events based on the local event database. Automation and escalation to external agencies such as an Enterprise Manager will be the responsibility of each of the local Reflex systems. Each local Reflex node will be responsible for maintaining a table of the status of the icons on display for its node. This will be updated as the Event Monitor passes new information to it as it arrives in the local EMS logs. Outside of this, the Reflex administrator needs to create a Network Hierarchy file that contains the names of all of the Reflex nodes in the network. At least one of these nodes needs to be classed as the parent and typically it is the node that you have your Reflex client connected to.
Each child node will then send regular status updates to the parent(s) stating that during the last poll period they have processed; • no events or • at least one vulnerable event or • at least one down event. • A fourth condition also exists, the parent expects a message from a child and it never arrives. The parent node has a state table for the nodes in the network and it is used to animate a display showing node icons. The icons will be shown as grey (no messages processed), red (at least one down), blue (at least one vulnerable) or orange (no child message received). In addition to this reactive monitoring of subsystems events, performance metrics, Reflex provides proactive monitoring to check the health and status of subsystems such as processes, files, tapes, queues, TMF, batch. This is but the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Reflex’s monitoring capabilities. Gravic recently published, Discover Meaningful Patterns Using Data Integration in the September/October issue of The Connection. HPE Shadowbase Streams for Data Integration uses Change Data Capture (CDC) technology to stream data generated by one application to target database and/or application environments, eliminating data silos and providing the facilities for integrating existing applications at the data or event-driven level in order to create new and powerful solutions.
Applications that once were isolated can now interoperate at an event-driven level in real-time. Critical data generated by one application is distributed and acted upon immediately by other applications, enabling the implementation of powerful Event-Driven Architectures (EDA). Several production use cases are included that illustrate how this data distribution technology brings new opportunities and value to various enterprises.
Gravic Presents on HPE Shadowbase at CTUG and MexTUG Conferences At CTUG, held last month near Toronto, Ken Goldman opened the show with an HPE Business Update, discussing recent business developments and sales in North America. Franz Koenig, Senior Manager of the HPE Advanced Technology Center (ATC), presented HPE NonStop WW Strategy Update and NonStop – The Art of the Possible. Franz said, “I want to have the most simple, reliable, mission-critical workload system on the planet.” Keith Moore presented NonStop Liberated – A New Way to Look at NonStop, discussing some of his goals with finding mission-critical use cases for porting applications and/or database services to the NonStop (particularly from Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server into SQL/MX, both environments that HPE Shadowbase supports as a source). Keith also discussed HPE’s ProLiant hardware and pointed out, “The stuff we’re doing in this space is incredible.” We presented HPE Shadowbase Mission-Critical Use Case Solutions and Product News, discussing recent Use Case additions, along with new features and future feature items. At MexTUG, held last week in Mexico City, we enjoyed catching up with the customers, meeting new faces, and hearing Arturo Canseco's talk on HPE's humble beginnings to its big vision for the future, as well as Mercedes Fabila's talk about HPE's product portfolio and hardware. We also experienced authentic local Mexican cuisine and the fine hospitality of the Sheraton Maria Isabel, and briefly explored the decorations at Mexico City's Dia de los Muertos. We only wish that there was more time to spend in the beautiful city, and plan to do so next time. Please Attend One of the HPE Shadowbase Presentations at the NonStop TBC
If you are attending the HPE NonStop TBC event next month, please stop by Booth #P3 and attend one of our presentations. We look forward to talking with you and discussing how the HPE Shadowbase product suite can provide solutions to your most pressing business issues for business continuity, data integration and synchronization, and application integration.

TIC SOFTWARE: 5 Things to Know when Starting a REST Client Development Project
Using REST is a great way to modernize Nonstop applications because it enables programs to interoperate with useful web services within the enterprise or on the Internet, such as Geocoding, Fraud-detection, Credit Card Authorizations, etc. Working on a REST project means you need to collaborate with the REST web service provider, via exchange of information and dialogs. This blog recommends some points for you to follow in order to facilitate that exchange to ensure that you get started on the right foot and get the project done more efficiently. OpenAPIs are at the heart of OmniPayments
Banking services are opening up to the modern world and increased competition through the move toward Open Banking. Consumers are increasingly demanding better Banking services on their phones and tablets, with all the increased elegance this brings. The traditional banks are slowly catching up with a Mobile First strategy, and realise they need to raise their game to take on the digital disrupters like Monzo, Atom, Starling, N26 etc. Want to transfer money to a friend? Do it on your phone App. Want to check your balance? Check your phone. Need to split a bill? There’s an App for that. The technical solution underlying all this is the move towards Open Banking, and OpenAPIs in particular. For modern devices this means deploying WebServices increasingly now over a JSON interface; Coders love the simplicity of JSON and its readability. At the heart of any set of OpenAPI WebServices lies a robust web server that can interpret and respond securely to the client devices requesting the service.
The OmniPayments approach to OpenAPIs is enabled through its inherent Web-based architecture designed and built over 20 years ago. At the heart of the highly scalable OmniPayments, web services enable XML and JSON requests from Browsers, from mobile Apps, or from other APIs making requests into the card payments switch. OmniPayments is publishing a library of OpenAPIs that brings an increased set of payments data to users on demand. Consumers can check on a balance, check on recent transactions, activate a new card, and freeze a card temporarily till you find it again. OmniPayments meets the needs of traditional and emerging banking technology.
You can find more on OmniPayments at www.omnipayments.com , contact your local representative or email us at sales@omnipayments.com for further information.
